The lodges in the animal area
At Domaine de la Dombes, you can enjoy a unique experience: sleeping among the animals. The Domaine now boasts 16 cabins overlooking different animal parks: Le parc des Cerfs & des Daims, le parc des Bisons, le parc des Sangliers and le parc des Mouflons.
Stay in a nature lodge and have the chance to observe animals evolving in their natural environment, in very large parks. All you have to do is choose the animal you’d like to admire? Or the lodge of your dreams? And when you’d like to experience this adventure? The great thing is that at any time of the year you can witness magnificent scenes of animal life.
Sleep in the middle of the deer
Stay in a lodge perched high above the immensity of the plaine des Cerfs et des Daims and enjoy the fullness of the Domaine’s open spaces. Some 30 deer (Sika Stag, Fallow Deer, Hinds & Fawns) live here on over 3 hectares.

In Spring, you will witness the loss of woods. In Summer, you will have the chance to witness the little fawns roaming around. In Autumn, the deer slag will offer you a unique show.
Sleep in the middle of the Bisons
4 cabins overlook Magda and Pop’s park, our female bison and her calf (now grown). From the terraces of these cabins, it will be very easy to observe them: when they come to bask in the sunny meadow area, or at the river’s edge when they come to drink.
These 2 residents are part of a European program to encourage the reproduction and reintroduction of animals considered vulnerable.

As night falls, take the time to listen to the sounds of the forest around you. In particular, the breath of this impressive animal, or the cracking of branches under their hooves as they make their way through the undergrowth.
Sleep in the middle of the Boars
This is the animal that populates our European forests, but about which little is known. Above all, they are nocturnal, so you’re sure to experience a night out of the ordinary. You’re not immune to the possibility of one of them rubbing against the cabin’s stilts during the night to give you a few thrills. 3 lodges ideal for watching them:
- The cabin Marcassins up to 2 pers
- The cabin Chênes up to 5 persons
- The cabin Sangliers up to 6 persons
In Spring and Summer, we are softened by the baby boars all striped and cute following the steps of their mother one after the other
Sleep in the middle of the Mouflon
3 little goblin thatched cottages implanted in the forest, in the middle of the mouflon park; those are the Troll cabins. It’s impossible to miss the animals – they’ll be all around you during your stay. Friendly and greedy, children will love feeding them blades of grass and foliage directly through the park’s fences.
In Spring it is the long-awaited birth period. During the slag, in Autumn you will certainly assist to fights between the males armed with beautiful hornes, fighting for the privilege of protruding all the females.

So do we. That’s why the Domaine de la Dombes has been taking in dozens of animals for years. Every morning, while you’re staying at the Domaine, you can take part in feeding the animals with the caretakers, and find out more about all our species.
