Our 2 private visits with an animal carer
Nursery visit
To be as close as possible to the babies
The educational tour begins with a presentation of the different eggs and feathers collected in the aviary. Not easy to guess which species they come from? Virginie, the expert, is there to guide the children and answer any crazy questions.
The eggs are then pampered, and we’re taught how to look at them using a lamp. The fertilized ones will be placed in an incubator, then moved to the hatchery after a few weeks. A little patience before the babies come out of their shells!
After theory comes practice! It’s time to take care of the newborns. First of all, inspection of food and water bowls, monitoring and discovery of births, enclosure maintenance – no time to get bored! Finally, the presentation of diplomas to deserving apprentice caretakers brings this wonderful adventure to a close.

Ains’tant soigneur visit
Are you passionate about animals? Come and discover the job of animal caretaker at Domaine de La Dombes and spend some quality time with the animals.
Which park to choose?
– The little farm with GUSTINE and GABIE the goats, playful and above all very greedy. Where the first task of the apprentice caretakers is to feed them hay. Then it’s off to pamper them with a few green leaves here and a few caresses there… They share the enclosure with a bunch of rabbits and guinea pigs who don’t let themselves be petted easily, but a delicious dandelion might change their minds!
– The aviaryThe aviary is a small haven of peace for our feathered friends. Watch your step between the duck droppings and the risk of knocking over a hen, pheasant or peacock. An egg hunt is also on the agenda. Well-hidden, it’s hard to tell the difference between the real eggs and the fake ones deliberately placed by our caretakers. We then learn that these false eggs are in fact a precious aid to encourage and promote egg-laying and brooding. Depending on the season, the aviary is also a field of feathers. Long, short, colorful, there are so many species in the aviary. Fortunately, Flavien is here to share his knowledge.
– The toy donkey park to meet our latest resident, a cute little colt who arrived in April. Daddy NOUGAT and mommy PTIT GRIS are not shy, and let themselves be stroked and brushed with ease. The apprentice caretakers are so busy cuddling the little foal that they don’t even think about feeding them!
